Tracy Niro launched Wise Moves 15 years ago because the need was clear. With long experience organizing and conducting estate sales, Tracy knew that many of her clients wanted more.
“These clients were seniors and they were moving, and so we started dealing with other tasks they needed support with, like taking care of sorting and then removing contents for donation or disposal, packing the items they wanted to keep, coordinating the moves and then unpacking when they moved in. We didn’t know what we were doing was senior move management, which was a fairly new industry at the time,” she said.
“We had a head start, because we already understood the liquidation industry and had developed relationships over the years with private buyers who understand this market,” she said. “We immediately began to expand our services.”
Public estate sales are time consuming, disruptive, and offer little value for the average homeowner looking to sell their household contents. “You need to have many thousands of dollars’ worth of items to offset the cost of the sale itself,” Tracy explained. “Private sales are more convenient and economical. You do not have the burden of opening the door to the public and you are dealing with educated buyers with many resources for resale.”
Tracy found that by partnering with her husband Joe, an experienced general contractor, Wise Moves can offer soup-to-nuts service — not only arranging to sell, donate or move all the household belongings, but include handyman services to make minor repairs to the old house and customize the new home with closets or built-ins tailored to the client’s needs.
“We have the liquidation background, great contacts and partnerships, years of experience with moving as well as the resource of the handyman services. There’s no need to bear the burden of subbing this all out: We are a complete turnkey opportunity.”
Let’s face it, Tracy said. “Moving is an arduous disruption to anyone’s lifestyle, be it seniors, young adults, or young professionals, and to not have to do the physical part of it, to have someone help you make the best decisions about what to sell or donate and what to take with them — our senior clients are so happy, they often ask us, why didn’t I do this sooner?” Tracy said.
“When we can guide our clients through the whole process, it’s very gratifying.”
